Weekend Wanderings #9: Bears! 🐻

Hi! Happy Friday from Forest Heights in beautiful Athens, Georgia.💚🦌

I recently had the honor and delight of spotting a bear at Fort Mountain State Park! Obviously, I have a healthy respect of bears and do not believe they are my friends a la Timothy Treadwell. BUT. They are undeniably cute and this was an exciting encounter. Here’s my guide to Fort Mountain State Park, particularly hiking the Gahuti trail. I hike regularly but I’m forever a soft girl hiker, and this trail kicked my ass.

• Katmai National Park’s Fat Bear Week just wrapped. I was cheering for Chunk and Walker but they are all the best bears! 🐻

• Dang, double dose of hurricanes depending where you live in the south. The show of community and volunteering in western North Carolina is heartening at least

• Two MARTA railcars have been repurposed as part of a marine life environment east of Ossabaw Island
