Weekend Wanderings #2: Waterfalls in a Gorge 🌼🪨💧

Hi! Happy Friday from Forest Heights in beautiful Athens, Georgia.💚🦌

Spider lily on my block and the “Spring Castle” in Rock Island State Park

Recent mornings have had a chill in the air and I recently learned that red spider lilies are the herald for fall. Fall is the prettiest time of year in North Georgia, with the least punishing weather, but I’m still trying to squeeze out the last drops of summer. I recently went to Rock Island which has a gorge full of waterfalls to explore. I think Middle Tennessee is my new frontier- they’ve got a lot of waterfalls up there and Tennessee’s state parks are FREE!

Here’s my post on camping at Rock Island State Park. ⛺️🪨🔥

This weekend, I’ve got a turn-and-burn road trip to Pearl Fryar’s Topiary Garden. Now that Mr. Fryar is in his 80s, his amazing yard may not be as sharp as it once was but it’s important to celebrate these special spaces while we can. I recently re-watched A Man Named Pearl, one of my favorite artist documentaries - what an incredible man.

Do you have any recommendations for sunflower fields in the south? Cuz I would love your recommendations. So far, I’ve bookmarked: Smithgall Woods (Helen, GA), Fausett Farms (Dawnsonville, GA), and Sol Flowers (Anderson, SC).

Thanks for reading and take care!
